Who we are: The Dairy Research, Improvement and Innovation Consortium (DRIInC) is a consortium made up of researchers and experts from across various departments and centers within the College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS) of the University of Ghana. The Consortium was established in July 2016 with support from the Skills Development Fund (SDF) of the council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training and the University of Ghana operates under the Institute of Applied Science and Technology, IAST
DRIInC’s interest areas are training, research, innovation, technology transfer,policy, advocacy. As a sustainability measure, DRIInC commercializes its research outcomes including products. Our research and training expertise are in food microbiology and safety, sensory and consumer science, product development (ideation to commercial scale-up), animal feed, forage and nutrition, horticulture and manure usage in crop production. We also have expertise in marketing, shelf-life testing and food testing.
Currently, DRIInC works in partnership with the Livestock and Poultry Research Center (LIPREC) to support the commercialization of the university branded yoghurt; Varsity, GoYo and Dairyle.
As part of DRIInC’s vision to build a resilient dairy industry in Ghana and West Africa, we wish to create collaborative databases of interested stakeholders within the dairy industry in Ghana who will help us to drive improvement and innovation in dairy production and processing in Ghana.
Vision: To become a world-class research-intensive Consortium in Food and Agro-Processing in Ghana, across sub-Saharan Africa and beyond with a focus in dairy.
Mission: To create an enabling environment that makes the Consortium increasingly relevant to national and global development through cutting edge research and training of industries and individuals in dairy and other food and agro-processing.
