The Dairy Research, Improvement and Innovation Consortium (DRIInC) was formed in July 2016. A partnership agreement was entered into by DRIInC and LIPREC to improve and rebrand the Varsity yoghurt to target the larger community outside the University’s campus and this birthed “GOYO” and “DAIRYLE” stirred yoghurts. The agreement between LIPREC and DRIInC gave birth to the Dairy Hub, the Commercialisation arm of DRIInC.
DRIInC’s interest areas are in training, research, innovation and technology transfer. It has a pilot plant facility and four self-sustaining research laboratories across the College of Basic and Applied Sciences. The focus of all DRIInC activities is in dairy. However, DRIInC also extends its research areas to non-dairy food commodities through its laboratories. DRIInC trainings span across all food sectors to enhance knowledge of producers, processors and handlers on acceptable and hygienic methods of producing, handling, processing and selecting foods for safe consumption.
